The Law Society  Gazette has reported that law firms across the UK are forcing workers to come into offices during lockdown when it is not necessary.

Law firm workers have spoken to the Gazette in confidence, reporting that the reason they are being made to go into offices is because bosses to not trust them to carry out their work remotely.

While official government guidance does not prohibit staff from going into offices, it has been made clear that workers should only go to a physical workplace ‘where it is unreasonable’ for them to carry out their job from home.

One solicitor reported that their firm had implemented only minimal safety measures and told staff they could not work from home because the phones could not be connected. Those who had Covid scares were told to keep quiet and those with negative tests were told to ignore government isolation advice and return to the office right away.
