Murray Etherington is the sole nominee to serve as future President of the Law Society of Scotland. Law Society Council members are set to confirm the nomination at their next meeting in January 2021.

Based in Dundee, Murray is a Partner at Thorntons and was elected to the Law Society’s Council in 2015 where he represents members in the Arbroath, Dundee and Forfar.

Current President, Amanda Millar, said,

“My warmest congratulations go to Murray on his nomination. As a member of the Council for the past five years, and as a committee convener, Murray has shown his commitment to advocating for the profession within his constituency and beyond. He knows the kind of challenges we face, and how the Law Society has worked to support and champion members and protect the public interest through the current crisis.”

The nomination lasts for a three-year term. Murray will begin serving as Vice President from 31 May 2021, and will then become President the following year. After his year serving as President, he will serve a third year as Past President.

On 31 May 2021, the existing law Society President Amanda Millar will move to the role of Past President, and Ken Dalling will become the next President of the Law Society of Scotland.
