New podcast ‘The Glass Cast’ interviews role models who work with or use the law to make it more LGBT+ inclusive. The podcast was started by The Glass Network, Scotland’s organisation for LGBT+ legal professionals.

The podcast currently has two episodes available.

Professor Stephen Whittle

In the first episode, The Glass Cast speaks to Professor Stephen Whittle, who is a British legal scholar specialising in equalities law, a co-founder of Press for Change, and a renowned trans activist. His fight for equality has taken place at the European Court of Human Rights and, most importantly for him, at the breakfast table. The podcast also discusses the history of the blood ban, its effect on LGBT+ community and on the public.

Amanda Millar, President of the Law Society of Scotland

The second episode features Amanda Millar, a solicitor who made LGBT+ history by being the first openly gay President of the Law Society of Scotland. When becoming President for the 2020/2021 term, there was nothing to suggest that the Scottish legal profession would be affected by lockdown, coronavirus, or that the Rule of Law would be attacked by government ministers. Nonetheless, Amanda has made it clear that the Rule of Law is not to be politicised, that the profession is for everyone, and that #TransRightsAreHumanRights. The podcast also discusses the importance of queer role models in the legal sector, and why the younger generation are showing everyone how to be inclusive.
