An online system to assist trainees and junior solicitors in drafting legal correspondence has won the Law Society of Scotland’s 2024 Innovation Cup.

The judges selected Andrew Logue – an Aberdeen based Associate with Clyde & Co – for his proposed tool to facilitate collaboration between junior staff and their supervisors in the drafting of emails containing legal advice.

Andrew will receive a £1,500 prize from Master Policy insurers RSA, and brokers Lockton will now work alongside selected experts to develop the winning idea into a working product.

John Mulholland, Convener of the Law Society’s Insurance Committee, said: “Congratulations Andrew on your winning entry! The judging panel was impressed with how your idea could support newer members of the profession whilst improving workplace efficiencies.

“We have turned the focus of the award this year to technological solutions, and Andrew’s entry epitomises our new approach. He’s come up with an innovative idea that now requires technical expertise to realise.

“Keeping up-to-date with technology and adopting new ways of working is central to minimising risk and ensuring we have a robust Master Policy. I am looking forward to seeing Andrew’s idea come to life and the benefits it will bring.”

On winning the competition, Andrew Logue said: “I’m delighted to have won this prestigious prize. I hope that my idea helps the profession to use technology to streamline the supervision of junior colleagues, especially those working remotely. Taking advantage of developments in technology will form a key part of the future of the profession.”

The Innovation Cup, now in its seventh year, is open to Scottish legal professionals and law students to submit ideas for risk management products, tools, or strategies.
