The Consumer Law sub-committee consists of solicitors and non-solicitors, who have an interest and experience in consumer law matters. This sub-committee works with stakeholders and respond to consultations and legislation on a wide range of consumer issues, and works closely with other committees, including the Banking, Company & Insolvency Law sub-committee.

Mr Mustafa said: “I am honoured to be selected for the Consumer Law Sub-committee as this is an area in which I have a deep interest, working with consumer legislation, namely, the Consumer Credit Act 1974 on a daily basis. I have a unique perspective as, although I do represent individual consumers, my firm primarily acts for some of the UK’s biggest DCAs and Finance Houses. I am well positioned to see things from the other side, having built up a strong knowledge base of contractual rights, responsibilities and remedies through the conduct of several reported cases, from the Sheriff Court to the Court of Session, relating to the practical interpretation of consumer legislation.”

“I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the Consumer Law sub-committee. I will continue in my role at the Civil Justice committee whilst undertaking my new duties.”

Ahsan is a Solicitor at Nolans based in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow. He practices commercial litigation, dispute resolution, debt and asset recovery and insolvency. He is also a Council Member at the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow.
