Lady Dorrian, Lord Justice Clerk and Chair of the Scottish Sentencing Council, was interviewed by Edith Forrest, Advocate, about the Death by Driving Guideline Public Consultation, which is open for responses until 22 November 2022.

Lady Dorrian explains why the consultation is taking place, the process the consultation has gone through and the procedure following the consultation.

The draft guideline being consulted on will, if approved, be the first offence specific guideline developed for use by the Scottish courts. It is intended to be read alongside the principles and purposes and sentencing process guidelines, and, where applicable, the sentencing young people guideline.

Practitioners and members of the public are encouraged to engage with the consultation. You can find out more information here. A free webinar is to be held for practitioners on 13 October. Any practitioner wishing to attend should email sentencingcouncil@scotcourts.gov.uk for more information and an attendance link.
