The First 100 Years is an innovative history project, supported by the Law Society, Bar Council and CILEx. The projects charts the journey of women in law since 1919 – when the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919 paved the way for women to become lawyers. The project was founded to celebrate, inspire and inform future generations of women in law.

In this recently released interview, the project spoke to Brenda Hale herself about her life and career. In the interview, she discusses everything from her upbringing to why she chose the law and what her journey to the Supreme Court has meant to her.

Baroness Hale is one of the most prominent examples of women’s progress in the legal profession, having reached the most role senior role in the British legal system and become a role model for generations of law students and lawyers. Similarly, her judgments while on the Bench and her work as a Law Commissioner have shaped the law in far-reaching ways.
